A momentous occasion such as this requires reliable electricity. OPG promises our power will be there to ensure the spotlight shines bright for Toronto and Ontario’s big moment on the world stage.

As the province’s largest and one of North America’s most diverse low-carbon electricity generators, OPG will help keep the pitch lit, screens buzzing, and the energy flowing as Canadians and visitors from around the world descend on Toronto.
But beyond providing power, OPG will use the event to inform the public on its operations and clean energy projects, and drive recruitment efforts for talented workers to help electrify life for generations to come. The company will also focus on making the game more accessible to all by supporting soccer throughout Ontario at a grassroots level.
“OPG is proud and excited to help support the City of Toronto as a Host City of FIFA World Cup 26™,” said Nicolle Butcher, OPG’s President and CEO. “A momentous occasion such as this requires reliable electricity. OPG promises our power will be there to ensure the spotlight shines bright for Toronto and Ontario’s big moment on the world stage.”
Sixteen cities in Canada, Mexico, and the U.S. will share hosting duties for the FIFA World Cup™, the first time the world’s premier international football competition will be hosted by three countries. The tournament will also feature 48 teams for the first time, expanded from 32.
As the world descends on Toronto, the city’s celebrated diversity will be on full display.
And supporting this moment will be OPG’s similarly diverse generating fleet.
For more than a century, OPG and its predecessor companies have helped drive Ontario’s growth and development. Today, the company provides about half of the province’s electricity through a generating mix that includes nuclear, hydroelectric, natural gas, biomass, and solar sources.
To enable Ontario’s next chapter of growth and electrification, OPG is now advancing several key projects to build more low-carbon power for the future, including the construction of the G7’s first commercial Small Modular Reactor at Darlington Nuclear.
